Location: Poured from the 12oz can into a tall Mizzou pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 4.6% ABV, ~150 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s a bright golden color, and was fairly hazy (after I took the picture, I stirred the yeast from the bottom and poured it in). It had a big, rocky, bright-white head on it that fell after a few minutes. It has a classic Belgian wit orange and coriander aroma to it with a little yeasty breadiness behind it.
Taste & Feel: The body is light and the mouthfeel is crisp. Up front, the flavor is citrusy with a bit of wheaty-bready flavor behind it. In the middle, the orange and coriander flavors come through on top, with the wheaty-bready-yeasty flavor there behind it. A noble hop bitterness comes up a little in the clean finish to meet the other spice flavors. It’s the orange-coriander and spicy noble hop bitterness that last briefly in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This beer has a good amount of citrus and spice, which I think would be a good pairing for light summer fare, such as a salad or fish. My perfect pairing for this beer would be fish tacos.
Overall Impression: This is a light, crisp, and refreshing beer, making it perfect for a super hot summer day like today. I’ll admit that this style isn’t always my favorite because the spiciness can take front and center, but this had just the right amount of spice to make it flavorful, but still very drinkable and refreshing. Overall, this was a great beer and I’m looking forward to trying more of Rockwell’s brews if I can talk my sister into stopping there and brining me some next time she visits.
