918. Monday Night Brewing – Cinnamon Cocoa Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale
Every year for the last several years, my wife and I have hosted a Halloween party. My wife is huge into decorating for the party, so preparation has been going on the last several weeks. After working all evening on getting things ready, I decided to pause and have this beer. It was a beer my friend Joe gave me when we met up several months ago. He lives in Atlanta, so whenever we meet up, he brings me some new beers from down south....
865. Goose Island – Cooper Project #1
My friend and I spent the weekend doing the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and hit 13 distilleries (and 5 breweries). It was a bit of a challenge getting back to work today, but I did and decided to reward myself and transition back to normal with this beer. I found it locally a few weeks ago and snagged a few bottles. I love their Bourbon County Brand Stout and thought a bourbon barrel aged scotch ale would be just as awesome. Location:...
864. Ballast Point – Piper Down Scottish Ale
As I mentioned a few days ago, I got a few beers sent to me by my friend David in San Diego, including AleSmith’s tribute to Tony Gwynn. Additionally, he sent me a few beers from Ballast Point, another top brewery in San Diego. While they’re getting pretty well known for their flavored IPA’s, I haven’t had much variety from them. I thought having a Scottish Ale from them might be a little different, plus, I...
797. Sun King Brewing – Wee Mac Scottish-Style Ale
I’m set on doing a few reviews today, so now that I’ve had dinner and helped put away Christmas decorations it’s time for a beer. This is one of the beers my sister brought me from her trip to Indianapolis. Admittedly, I’ve already had the other three in the four pack and held onto this one to do this review. The can says, “Crafted to be smooth and malty, Wee Mac has a rich hazelnut character with toffee...
753. Three Floyds – Robert the Bruce Scottish Style Ale
Today was a pretty decent day at work. My employees were gone and I had a fairly good talk with my boss (who I’ve only gotten a chance to talk with about 3 times since I started about 3 months ago). I was also able to get home at a decent time. So, to celebrate the day, I cracked open this beer while making dinner. I picked this one up during one of my many work trips up to Chicago lately. Location: I poured it into a snifter...
633. Central Waters Brewing Co. – Slainte Scottish Ale
My friend Joe is in town this week for work, and tonight I decided to take him to Medici in Normal for some good food and craft beers. It probably has the best combination of food and craft beers available in town, and it also happens to be their “Wednesday Warriors,” when they have beers on special. It seems that every time I’ve gone here lately, I end up with either a beer from Central Waters or one from Greenbush...
610. Monday Night Brewing – Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale
Today I arrived in Atlanta, GA, where I’ve met up with my good friend Joe. The plan is to try a bunch of local brews from the growing Atlanta craft beer scene, and then go to the Mizzou-Georgia football game in Athens on Saturday. After stopping at The Beer Growler and picking up some Founders Breakfast Stout for Saturday morning (the bus leaves Atlanta at 7 A.M. to go to the game), we headed to Taco Mac. It’s a sports bar...
456. The Pike Brewing Co. – Scotch Style Pike Kilt Lifter Ruby Ale
I’m sitting here watching my Missouri Tigers in their home opener football game tonight and decided to go ahead and crack open a beer. As I mentioned in my review of Hilliards Amber ale, my cousin Steve sent me a bunch of beers from Seattle. This was one of them, and it looked like a great beer to have on this rainy evening while watching some football. Location: Poured into a Stella Artois pint glass from the bottle at my home...
258. Founders – Backwoods Bastard
After having the Founders Dirty Bastard yesterday, I was looking forward to having this one today. If you aren’t aware, this one is the exact same as the Dirty Bastard, except that it has been aged in bourbon barrels. I’m having this one while sitting here watching my Mizzou Tigers getting killed on ESPN3. Numbers: 10.2% ABV, 50 IBUs Appearance & Aroma: Deep brown in color, and surprisingly, it seems a little bit...
257. Founders – Dirty Bastard Scotch Style Ale
This beer has been looking at me from the beer fridge, but I was waiting until I was able to get Founders Backwoods Bastard until I tried this one. So, I’m having this one tonight and I’ll try the Backwoods Bastard tomorrow. Founders says this about Dirty Bastard, “So good it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired...
148. Fearless Brewing – Fearless Scottish Ale Draft
I was enjoying the Oregon Brewers Festival and wanted to make sure I could try as many local brews as I could. I had never heard of Fearless Brewing, but it said it was from Estacada, OR. The color was an almost dark amber-red color with a thick, creamy, tan head on it. There was a nice obvious malty aroma to it that reminded me of caramel. The body was a bit lighter than I was expecting, but it did have a creamy mouthfeel to it. ...
