91. Founders Brewing – Centennial IPA

We had our homebrew club picnic today at the hideout of one of our club members. It’s in the middle of nowhere, but it is a great place with a small pond, a big grill, and a little cabin. The pond is stocked with big fish, which my son and I enjoyed catching most of the afternoon (at least when we weren’t swimming or paddling around in the canoe).  You can see the photos below. When we stopped for lunch, it was the perfect time to take a break from sampling others’ homebrew and break out the Founder’s brew I brought for the afternoon. The bottle said it had 65 IBU’s and was 7.2% ABV.

When I poured it in glass, it was a nice copper color, and it had a very, very thin (almost no) head. It had a very, very nice hop aroma, which was sort of earthy. I also noticed a nice sweet malt smell.

It had a light medium body, and the front of it had a good malty flavor, followed quickly by an earthy hop flavor. A somewhat complex hop flavor, I also noticed a slightly floral hop flavor as well. The aftertaste was a nice hop bomb flavor that stuck around for quite a bit.

It went well with the burger and brat I had at the picnic, but it would be good on its own, just to enjoy the hop flavor. It was a very good beer for a hop head like me. It had a great hop flavor, and I was really glad that I actually won a 6-pack of this beer for placing in our cereal beer competition (for my Coo-Coo for Coco Puff Stout).
