879. White Oak Brewing – Res Ipsa Loquitur

879. White Oak Brewing - Res Ipsa LoquiturMy son was attending a party on the other side of town, and after I dropped him off, I decided to finally stop by White Oak Brewing’s taproom. I haven’t been there since it was a homebrew shop a year or two ago. I don’t get to this side of town often so I decided to stop in for a beer and check it out. I sampled a couple IPAs and decided on this one.

Location: On tap and served in a small TEKU glass at the White Oak Tap Room in Normal, IL.

Numbers: 7% ABV, 260 Calories

Appearance & Aroma: It’s a hazy dark orange color with a small head that fell to a Ring around the edge of the glass after a few minutes. It has a straight citrusy hop aroma.

Taste & Feel: The body is medium and the mouthfeel is smooth and a bit oily. The citrusy flavor and bitterness up front is slightly sharp, but it smooths out a bit throughout. The finish is citrusy with 60/40 split between bitterness and flavor. The bitter citrusy hoppiness lasts briefly in the finish.

Food Pairing: It’s a pretty citrusy beer with a fair amount of bitterness, so I’d maybe go with cheesy food like pizza to balance it out a bit.

Overall Impression: It was a pretty clean, refreshing IPA, with a nice straight citrus hop flavor. The bitterness fades throughout, but I think I’d like it slightly more balanced toward the citrusy hop flavor rather than bitterness. I’ve only had a few of their beers, but it’s probably one of the best I’ve had from them. Overall, not a bad citrusy IPA.

My Rating: ★★★½☆
