Location: Poured into a large goblet style glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 6.3% ABV, 61 IBUs, 10 SRM, ~180 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s orangish in color and fairly hazy with a creamy, cream-colored head on it that fell to a ring around the glass after a few minutes. It has a grassy-piney hop aroma to it.
Taste & Feel: The body is light-medium and the mouthfeel is a little bit crisp from carbonation and hop bitterness. Up front it has a piney-resinous hop bitterness that’s a bit dank. The malt sweetness comes through a little in the middle, even though the bitterness overpowers it slightly. The finish is bitter, with some grassy, slightly harsh piney bitterness eclipsing much of the hop flavors. The bitterness lasts for a minute or so in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This is a pretty bitter beer, so I’d find something solid like a burger or pizza to tame the bitterness back a bit.
Overall Impression: I liked the piney-resinous hop bitterness and flavor, but the bitterness was a bit harsh for me in the aftertaste, I think I would have liked this with some later addition hops rather than so much of the bittering hops. It was nice to have the malty sweetness peak through in the middle, so that it wasn’t all bitter. Overall, I thought this was a pretty good beer.
