Location: On draft and served in a goblet style glass at Obed & Isaac’s in Peoria, IL.
Numbers: 6% ABV, ~160 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s light amber in color, and very clear, arriving with almost no head on it. It mostly had a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. It had a citrusy hop aroma with some hints of malt.
Taste & Feel: The body is somewhat light with a watery mouthfeel that has a little bit of crispness form the carbonation. There’s a piney-grapefruit citrusy hop flavor up front, with an even bigger jolt of citrusy bitterness in the middle. In the finish, the citrusy hop flavors mix with a little bit of earthy dank hoppiness. That dank citrusy hop bitterness lasts for a minute or two in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: I had this beer with their Whiskey burger, covered in cheese, onions and mushrooms, and this was a great pairing. The citrusy hop flavors were a nice contrast to the savory burger.
Overall Impression: This beer had a nice citrusy hop flavor and bitterness, and I liked the addition of the dank hoppiness in the finish. It made the hop flavor a little more complex than your typical citrusy hop bomb IPA. Although I enjoyed the flavors, the body was a bit light and mouthfeel a little bit watery for me. Overall, it was a nice IPA that went great with the food there.
