857. Four Hands Brewing – Chocolate Milk Stout

858. Four Hands Brewing - Chocolate Milk StoutAfter my review earlier today, I spent the evening cleaning up my kids rooms. It was definitely time for another beer. My sister sent this beer a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve been looking at it every time I open my fridge. So, I decided to go ahead and crack it open this evening.

Location: Poured into a pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.

Numbers: 5.5% ABV, ~150 Calories

Appearance & Aroma: It’s black in color, and some dark brown highlights could be seen when held up to the light. It had a decent sized, tan head that fell after a minute or two to a thin layer over the top. It has a milk chocolate and dark chocolate-like aroma.

Taste & Feel: The body is light and the mouthfeel is primarily watery with a little bit of oiliness from the cocao nibs I assume. The flavor up front is milk chocolate-like, and it doesn’t change much throughout. In the finish, there’s a little bit of cocoa-like bitterness which carries into the aftertaste and lasts for a minute or so.

Food Pairing: With the consistent milk chocolate flavor in this beer, I think it could go with a hearty food like a steak, but it would probably best be paired with a richer chocolate flavor, or maybe even something like strawberries to contrast it a bit.

Overall Impression: When you name a beer “Chocolate Milk Stout” it had better taste like the name. I thought it had a decent milk chocolate flavor, but was a bit disappointed with the lighter body of this beer. I was expecting it to have a bit more lactose to add to the creaminess and sweetness more. It wasn’t bad, I think I just expected it to be a bit richer in flavor.
