85. Bell’s Brewery – Two Hearted Ale Draft

With my parents in town for the long holiday weekend, we decided to go out to eat tonight.  My mom is a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, so we had to find a place that had the game on.  I had only been to Wings Etc. here in town once before and was not very impressed.  Well, tonight was no exception… There were no beer list at our table, and when I asked the waitress what was on draft she said, “Coors, Miller Light, Bud Light, Fat Tire, no wait, we just ran out of that… well, we’ve got a bunch of other stuff.”  So, I thought I’d go up to the bar to take a look myself, and I was delighted to see they had Bell’s Two Hearted Ale on draft.

It was nicely served in a Bell’s Brewery glass and was clear and straw yellow with a bit of a coppery tone to it.  It had very little to no head on it.  I noticed a breezy floral, slightly citrusy, hop aroma with some hints of an almost honey-like sweetness.

The body was light and it was extremely crisp and refreshing to drink.  It had a nice honey-like malt sweetness, quickly followed by a big hop flavor which actually seemed to get bigger in the aftertaste.  The hop flavor was definitely more floral than grassy, but both flavors were present.

As far as a food pairing, it would go very well with any summertime food – hot dogs, burgers, brats, etc.  This might possibly be the perfect IPA for a hot summer day.  It was very light, crisp, and refreshing up front, with a hop flavor that came through in the aftertaste.   I’ve only had this once before, but I have to say that I would rank this up there as one of my favorites.
