I was supposed to play golf with my father-in-law today, but the rain prevented that. And, my son was sick again today, so I had to stay home with him for a bit. After a nice lunch with my wife, I came home and decided to crack open a beer while working on some things around the house. Since it’s Oktoberfest, I decided to have this one. It was given to me by my friend Kevin who brought me several beers from Indianapolis.
Location: Poured into a pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL
Numbers: 6.7% ABV, 20 IBUs, ~200 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s orange-amber in color, and slightly hazy. It had a decent cream colored head on it that fell after a minute or two. The aroma is a mix of maltiness and graininess.
Taste & Feel: The body is medium, and the mouth feel is lightly crisp. It’s a bit grainy up front with some lightly spicy hop bitterness. The malty sweetness steps to the front in the middle and an earthy-spicy hop bitterness comes in the finish to balance it out. The aftertaste is a mix of malty sweetness and hop bitterness.
Food Pairing: With the mix of sweet maltiness and spicy-earthy hop bitterness, I think the perfect pairing would be an authentic German meal with sausage and schnitzel covered in mushroom gravy. And of course another great pairing would be a huge Oktoberfest pretzel.
Overall Impression: I thought this was a great Oktoberfest beer. It had a very nice balance of graininess, malty sweetness and a great noble hop bitterness. It was both flavorful and drinkable, perfect for the fall season. If you’re looking for a good fall, Oktoberfest beer, definitely try this one.
