Location: Poured into a TEKU glass at my home in Bloomington, IL
Numbers: 5.4% ABV, 20 IBUs, ~140 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s orange-amber in color an fairly hazy. The head was white and pillowy, but fell to a very thin ring around the edge of the glass. The aroma is grainy and malty.
Taste & Feel: The body is light and the mouthfeel is crisp. The flavor up front is a little grainy and bready-malty behind the carbonation crispness. In the middle, the bready-malty sweetness comes out of the crispness. In the finish, there’s a little bit of spicy-earthy bitterness that tries to balance out the sweetness. The aftertaste is mostly bready-malty sweetness with a bit of spicy hop dryness.
Food Pairing: This beer has a good amount of bready-malty sweetness that needs to be balanced out a bit. Therefore, I’d probably pair this with something savory like a meatloaf or steak.
Overall Impression: I think this Oktoberfest is made for beginning craft beer drinkers. It’s light and crisp and the flavors are mostly sweet bready-malt. It’s not a bad beer, it’s just a little crisp and sweet for me. Overall, it’s an OK beer that may be a good transition beer for macro-beer drinkers.
