78. Founders Brewing – Cerise Cherry Fermented Ale

I’m upgrading my 10 year old computer, and while loading on programs, I’ve finally caught up on my reviews, so tonight I thought I’d treat myself with this Founders Brewing seasonal, Cerise. One of my friends said he and his wife really love this, so I was looking forward to trying it. The bottle says that it has 15 IBU’s and is 6.5% ABV. It also indicates that it is a “Malt beverage brewed with cherry purée.”

It was a clear orange/amber color and it had no head whatsoever.  There were a few very small bubbles at the top, but not much.  The aroma was cherries, but it was a little bit like a box of cherries rather than fresh cherries.

The body was light, but there was very little carbonation.  It had an extremely sweet cherry sourness to it, and, although it had a light body, it seemed almost syrupy sweet.  It was a bit too sweet for me, and it almost tasted a bit artificial (even though the label says pureed cherries were used).

While I was really looking forward to it, I was not much of a fan of this beer (or malt beverage with cherries added).  Much like O’Fallon’s Cherry Chocolate beer, it was too sweet and artificial tasting for me.
