751. Krombacher Gruppe – Krombacher Pilsner

751. Krombacher Gruppe - Krombacher PilsnerI’m in Chicago again for work and am staying across the street from Beer House Chicago again. Tonight, there was a girl at the bar trying to get people to buy this beer and their “black Pilsner” (I had to explain to her what a Schwartzbier is. I really try not to be a beer snob) to get a free glass. I thought it was kind of a cool glass, and it was a fairly cheap beer, and I haven’t had it yet. So, I thought I’d go ahead and give it a try.

Location: Poured into a Krombacher Pilsner glass at Beer House Chicago in Lombard, IL.

Numbers: 4.8% ABV, 11.21% OG

Appearance & Aroma: It’s bright golden in color and crystal clear, with a thin head and decent lacing. The aroma is a slightly grainy, somewhat sweet Pilsner maltiness.

Taste & Feel: The body is very light and the mouthfeel is crisp. There’s a very light graininess up front, which grows in flavor in the middle, with some lightly toasty notes. The finish is very clean, very balanced with a light earthy hop flavor for balance. The balanced hop and light grainy flavor lasts briefly in the aftertaste.

Food Pairing: This beer is very light and would go with almost anything. I had it with a burger and while refreshing, it didn’t cover or wash away the burger flavor at all. I would go with a very light dish, like a salad or fish to pair with this beer.

Overall Impression: I thought this a very crisp, clean lager, which was very drinkable, and would be great on a hot day. I would have liked a bit more graininess from it, but it was still nice and refreshing. It was good compared to light American lagers. Overall, it was a nice light beer, but since it was so light in flavor, it’s probably not one I’d seek out.

My Rating: ★★★½☆
