Location: On tap and served in a tumbler style pint glass at Booches in Columbia, MO.
Numbers: 3.6% ABV, 16 IBUs, 18 SRM, ~100 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s dark copper in color, like an aged penny, and it’s somewhat hazy. There’s no head at all, only a slight creamy ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. The aroma was lightly nutty-malty with a light woody-mossy like smell.
Taste & Feel: The body is light and the mouthfeel is smooth with a slight crispness. The flavors up front are mostly malty with a fair amount of nuttiness, which gets a little spicy and woody-mossy in the middle. The malty-nuttiness lasts throughout with the woody-mossiness moving to the background in the finish. There’s also a hint of fruitiness in the very dry finish. The malty nuttiness lasts briefly in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This beer was a very good pairing for my Booches burgers, but the malty nuttiness would probably also go nicely with BBQ or other hearty meals.
Overall Impression: This was a unique beer with flavors that I wasn’t expecting. The maltiness was a bit nuttier than expected, and the spicy and woody-mossy flavors were different. Once I got used to these flavors, I began to enjoy them. It’s probably not a beer I’d enjoy all that often (I’m not a huge fan of the style), but this is certainly a unique beer with different flavors. Overall, I’m glad I got a chance to try it, and I look forward to trying their other beers.
