70. Anchor Brewing – Anchor Steam Draft

We went to the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend to attend a surprise party for my grandma’s 80th birthday.  We went to dinner at Lil Rizzo’s and I tried to get something different, so I thought I’d try the Anchor Steam on draft.

It was clear and copper colored, and had a very thin head on it when it arrived.  The aroma is very difficult to describe, but I would classify it as a mix of a musty smell with an almost coppery metalic smell.  The aroma is very unique.

When I took a drink, it had a very light body and it was crisp and a bit sharp.  It had a malty taste up front, with a bit of a woody, sort of musty finish.  It did seem to have a bit of a dry finish after sipping on it for a bit.

It is a uniquely flavored beer that is light and crisp, but the sharpness and mustiness keep it from being super refreshing.  I think it would go very good with a white garlic pizza or something light with a stronger flavor.  It’s a pretty good, unique beer, but I think I’d normally prefer something refreshing if I’m going for a lighter beer.
