It’s been a while, but we’ve been busy. We closed on our new house last week, and we’ve been over there almost every night painting and cleaning. Tonight, I took a break and decided to try this beer that was sent to me by Veteran Beer Company. They sent me the two beers they make, which is this one, as well as their Veteran lager to try. The label has a cool, patriotic vibe and I like the artwork.
Location: Poured into a curved pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 5% ABV, 4 SRM, ~120 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s golden-orange in color and slightly hazy. There seems to be a lot of carbonation in it, giving it a good sized head that’s fluffy and bright white with great retention and lacing. The aroma is very light with only some hints of breadiness and citrus.
Taste & Feel: The body is light and the mouthfeel is slightly crisp, but as it warmed up, the mouthfeel became a little bit creamy. The flavor up front is lightly sweet and grainy-bready. In the middle, a little bit of a lemony-citrus flavor comes through with the breadiness. The finish is clean, bready, and lightly lemony with just a bit of bitterness. The bready and light citrus flavors last briefly in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This beer is fairly light with some neutral flavors, it would go great with a light fish or chicken dish, but would also be great to help knock down the spiciness from a good Mexican dish as well.
Overall Impression: This beer was clean with some nice light flavors, including some graininess up front and then bready and lemony-citrus throughout. It was very drinkable and smooth, and would make a great summer beer. The flavors are at just the right level, giving it some light character, but it’s very drinkable on a hot day. I think this beer is probably best for a mid-summer BBQ with friends. Thanks Veteran Beer Company for giving me an opportunity to try it!
