The bottle says, “Three Blind Mice is inspired by our favorite qualities from English brown ales, German altbiers, and Irish reds. Mother’s trio of beer connoisseurs sipped away many a night, working to find this ideal combination. Mother’s beautiful brown beer is medium bodied with caramel, coffee, and subtle chocolate malt flavors – all balanced by moderate hop notes and a clean, dry finish.
Location: Poured into a curved pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 5.5% ABV, 24 IBUs, ~130 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s dark brown in color with ruby and brown highlights when held up to the light. It had a finger thick foamy head, which fell to a thin creamy layer at the top, and left some decent lacing on the glass. There’s a malty caramel aroma with some roasty undertones.
Taste & Feel: The body is light and the mouthfeel is somewhat crisp. It has a dark bread and lightly sweet caramel flavor up front, followed by a roasty cocoa-caramel flavor. The finish is somewhat dry and has a coffee-cocoa roasty, slightly bitter, flavor that lasts for a minute in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: I had this beer with some chocolate, nut, and caramel candy (Turtles) and it went perfectly together – complementing the roasty, cocoa, and caramel flavors. With those types of flavors, BBQ would also be a very good pairing for this beer.
Overall Impression: It had some decent bready, caramel, and cocoa flavors, but I would have liked a little bit less roastiness and some richer flavors. While there was a fair amount of complexity, the flavors were a bit flat to me. Overall, it was a decent beer, and I’ll see if I can pick up more of their beers the next time I’m in St. Louis.
