It’s a bit of a lazy Saturday, and I spent the morning taking down the Christmas lights. Like I mentioned in my last review – Abita Restoration Pale Ale – this is yet another older beer I found in my beer fridge that I picked this one up as part of a mixed six pack last December on a work trip to New Orleans.
The bottle says, “ At only 92 calories, this award-winning beer retains the taste and character of full-bodied lagers but with a New Orleans touch, making it a truly unique light amber beer.”
Location: Poured into a curved pint glass from the twist off bottle at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 4.13% ABV, 92 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s clear and has a light amber color. The head fell almost immediately after pouring it, and there appeared to be little carbonation in this beer. There wasn’t even a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. The aroma was very bready and cracker-like.
Taste & Feel: The body was light-medium and the mouthfeel was crisp. Through the crispness emerges a light bready and lightly caramel-like sweetness. The finish has just a bit of bitterness, but the aftertaste is the same light bready-caramel sweetness.
Food Pairing: This beer has mostly bready and sweet caramel flavors, making it a great compliment for spicy creole and Cajun New Orleans dishes. The breads and sweet flavors will knock down the spiciness, yet it’s light enough not to fill you up.
Overall Impression: It was bright and crisp, and very drinkable, with lighter flavors. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of head on this, but it could have been my fault for leaving it in the fridge for a year. Overall, I thought it was a lighter, drinkable beer that was slightly above average in terms of flavor, but lacking in head.
