422. Piece Brewery & Pizzeria – Golden Arm

20120517-164401.jpgAs I mentioned in my last post, I’m in Chicago today to watch my sister play football.  She plays professional women’s tackle football for the St. Louis Slam.  We headed up early and took the kids to Shedd Aquarium.  Before going to the game, we stopped at Piece for a pizza and a few beers.  I already had their Worryin’ Ale, and my wife let me enjoy about half of her beer when she ordered this one.

Location: Served on tap into an imperial pint glass at Piece Pizzeria & Brewery in Chicago, IL.

Numbers: 5% ABV,  ~ 150 Calories

Appearance & Aroma: It was extremely clear and was bright yellow in color.  There was almost no head on it, only a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.  There was also almost no aroma, only a slight hint of bready graininess.

Taste & Feel: It was light in body and had a crisp mouthfeel.  The flavors up front were very light, but there were some light cracker and bread-like flavors detectable.  Near the middle and finish, there was a very light grassy hop note.  The finish was light and crisp with little remaining flavor in the aftertaste.

Food Pairing: This was light enough in both body and flavor that it would go with almost anything.  It went nicely with our sausage, pepperoni, bacon, and onion pizza, helping to clean the palate, and the onion breath, easily.

Overall Impression: The flavors in this beer were very light, but present.  The breadiness up front was a bit cracker-like, and the light grassy hop came forward a bit in the finish.  Overall, there wasn’t a lot of flavor to this beer, but it was extremely drinkable, crisp and refreshing.

My Rating: ★★★½☆
