Location: On tap at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, MO.
Numbers: 5.4% ABV, 20 IBUs, 140 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s hard to tell since it was in this plastic cup, but it appeared to be light brown and slightly orange in color, and it had a decent sized, creamy head on it, which stuck around for a little while. There was a bit of a caramel malt and nutty aroma.
Taste & Feel: It seemed to have a creamy and smooth mouthfeel with a medium to full body. It had a light nuttiness and sweet caramel maltiness, along with some hints of honey and maple syrup. The nuttiness came through a bit more in the finish, with a decent amount of sweet caramel and bready flavors.
Food Pairing: For some reason, when I was having this beer, I kept thinking how perfectly it would go with bread pudding. The sweetness and breadiness of the pudding would go nicely together with the nutty and caramel flavors in the beer, making for an extra complex sweet dessert.
Overall Impression: I was impressed that the solid body and nutty and sweet caramel flavors were still quite drinkable. This is definitely a beer that should be enjoyed on a cool fall day around the fire pit (not necessarily on a 90+ degree day on the golf course). Overall, I pretty good beer, but I’d wait to enjoy this till the fall.
