While I was brewing out in the garage today, I thought it would be a good time to clean out the beer fridge. It’s packed so full, I wasn’t exactly sure what I had in there. Well, I found this Full Sail Session lager shoved way in the back. I got this beer at the end of last summer when I did my Cuisinternship at Full Sail. I knew it was past the date, but, having had the opportunity to try it fresh at the brewery – as well as taste test what the beer tasted like after being aged in the lab, I knew exactly what to expect.
Location: Bottle enjoyed at home in Bloomington, IL
Numbers: 5.1% ABV, 18 IBUs, 130 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It was very clear and golden yellow. There was a fizzy head, but it fell pretty quickly, although there was a lot of carbonation in it. The aroma was a bready-lager smell with a hint a very light citrus.
Taste & Feel: Light bodied and crisp, the carbonation gave it a very effervescent mouthfeel. There was a nice somewhat bready, pilsner malt flavor in the middle with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish.
Food Pairing: This beer is light and crisp enough that it would go with almost anything. Maybe because it’s summer, but I can really see this going well with some nice Mexican food. The lightness and crispiness would go well, and the bready malt flavor would help wash down the spiciness.
Overall Impression: This is an extremely drinkable beer. It’s light, crisp and refreshing, however, it’s got a nice bready pilsner taste. You can actually taste that it’s made with grain (and not rice or corn sugar). I’ll admit that I’ve got a bias toward this brewery since I got to help brew there for a week, but this is one of the best american pale lagers I’ve had (and I love the stubby bottle).
