Location: On tap at BJ’s Brewhouse in McAllen, TX.
Numbers: 5.9% ABV, 35 IBUs, ~ 177 Calories
Ingredients: Malt: 2-row Pale, English Crystal, Briess Victory and Special Roast, Chocolate; Hops: Magnum, Willamette, UK Fuggles
Appearance & Aroma: It was a bit hazy and a deep brown color with a creamy tan head on top. The head left some nice lacing on the glass. There was an obvious nutty aroma, as well as a bit of caramel malt.
Taste & Feel: It was medium-bodied, creamy and smooth to drink, with just a little bit of a carbonation tingle. There was a solid roasted, nutty caramel flavor in the middle. In the finish those flavors became a bit more amplified with a little bit of fruitiness and earthy hop bitterness in the finish.
Food Pairing: The flavors from this beer were mostly roasted nuttiness, so I think it might go best with a solid meal, such as BBQ, or a steak.
Overall Impression: I enjoyed the creamy smoothness as I drank this beer, and it had some of the most pronounced roasted nut flavors of almost any nut brown I’ve tasted (except for the Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan Nut Brown I tried last week). Overall, it was a pretty good beer, and if you’re a nut brown lover, you’re sure to like this one.
