Location: On tap at the Pappadeaux Seafood House in the Dallas Fort Worth Airport.
Numbers: 5.9% ABV, 42 IBUs, 15 EBC, 15.5 Plato OG, 175 calories (per serving)
Appearance & Aroma: It was very clear and was yellow-gold with a bit of an amber tint. The head fell quickly, leaving a very thin blanket of bubbles at the top. I’m not sure if it was the glass or the beer, but the aroma was very soapy.
Taste & Feel: The body was fairly thin, and the flavor was very crisp and clean. There was a very light bready malty flavor in the middle, and a little bit of a dry hoppy finish. The hop flavor in finish is light and clean.
Food Pairing: There wasn’t much flavor to the beer, other than a little bit of crisp maltiness in the middle. Since it is “Harpoon” IPA, and we’re at a seafood place, I would recommend this with seafood. I think it would be great to help wash down everything from popcorn shrimp to sea bass.
Overall Impression: This was a very light beer with not a lot of flavor to it, and it reminds me more of a pale ale than an IPA. The flavors were very light, crisp, and refreshing, and I found this to be a very drinkable beer. The soapy aroma threw me for a loop, but I’m thinking that was probably bad rinsing from the restaurant than an issue with the beer. Overall it was a pretty good beer, but I want my IPAs to be a little bigger on the ABV scale and I want to be able to taste the IBUs it claims to have.
