This was another beer my friend Jim brought back for me from his trip to Wisconsin. I had this when I talked my wife into stopping by their hilltop brewery in New Glarus, WI on our trip back from Wisconsin Dells last winter. However, since we stopped there and had this one before I started this blog, I was glad Jim brought me one to review here.
Numbers: 4.8% ABV
Appearance & Aroma: The beer was very clear and yellow in color, but there were also some tiny particles of sediment in it. The head was more of a thin, creamy ring around the top of the glass. It smelled lightly malty, with a tiny bit of a lemon citrusy-fruity aroma and a slightly lager-like smell (although it’s an ale), perhaps from the corn added.
Taste & Feel: The beer was light bodied, with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. There was a carbonation bite up front, followed by a bit of a bready, almost buttered cracker flavor. It was lightly fruity in the middle, finishing with a little bit bigger fruity flavor and a bit of breadiness in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This was light enough that it could probably go with almost any food. However, I think the bready and lightly fruity flavors may go great with some authentic Wisconsin cheese curds.
Overall Impression: It was very drinkable and refreshing, and I would almost say it was bright and airy. This is another beer that would be good on a hot summer day. I think it offers a different type of flavor, but still a light one, that could potentially bring a Bud Light or Miller Light drinker toward trying craft beer.

I would recommend the “Fat Squirrel” on your next visit. I enjoy “Spotted Cow” but the squirrel quickly became my favorite.
