When I poured it, it was very slightly hazy, and was a rusty red/brown color. There was absolutely no head at all, and it appeared to have very little carbonation. There was a malty, slightly raisin-like aroma with a hint of warm spices I couldn’t recognize.
It had a solidly medium body, and a very smooth smooth mouthfeel. There didn’t seem to be much carbonation in it, but there was a little carbonation tingle on my tongue up front. There were some nice, warm caramel and raisin like flavors in the middle and in the finish. The finish also had a little bit of a spiciness, although I couldn’t really recognize what type of spice it might be. There also was a hint of an alcohol warmth in the finish as I continued to drink it.
This would probably go well with some BBQ, but since it’s the holidays, I think it would probably go best with a piece of fruitcake or a pecan log.
Although I felt this could have been better with a creamy, foamy head on it, it was still a pretty good beer. The warm flavors and spices, along with the alcohol warmth, made it a nice beer to drink while huddled inside watching movies on Christmas eve.
