I was thrilled when I found out I was going to be in Denver for work this week. And, just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I called the crew from Full Sail Brewing from my Brewmaster Cuisinternship, and they allowed me to extend my internship for just one more day. They let me use one of their brewer’s passes to attend GABF. I really can’t thank them enough, and I really didn’t mind being called “Happy Hoppington” the entire evening.
It was an incredible evening, starting with meeting Charlie Papazian, the godfather of homebrewing, and founder of the American Homebrewers Association and the Great American Beer Festival. I also got a chance to meet several others I’ve only gotten to read about – Sam Calagione fom Dogfish Head, author John Palmer, and Adam Avery from Avery Brewing.
I also got a chance to try a ton of beers from breweries I couldn’t get back in Illiniois – from Russian River (see me grinning at the booth on the right), Sun King, The Bruery, Shorts, and more. There were also several rare beers I got to try, including Black Tuesday from The Bruery and Canadian Breakfast Stout from Founders Brewing.
If I can talk my wife and or friends into going back, I will. However, I think I would also makes sure I went for at least 2-3 days – with nearly 500 breweries and over 2,200 beers available, my 4 hours at GABF flew by faster than I would have ever expected. I really hope I can get a chance to go back, as this really is the pinnacle of beer festivals!
Again, I sincerely thank the crew from Full Sail Brewing for everything. This experience would not nearly have been as exciting without the Brewer’s Pass. THANK YOU!
