201. Tin Mill Brewing – Dopplebock Draft

As I mentioned in my last couple posts, we were in Hermann, MO for their Oktoberfest celebration.  In the midst of all of the wineries, there was Tin Mill Brewing, so my fellow beer-loving friend and I enjoyed a few beers here while our wives headed back over to the winery.  I didn’t have a whole lot of faith in Tin Mill’s beers after having their Oktoberfest, however, I thought I’d go ahead and give their dopplebock a try.

It had a deep, dark brown color and a thin creamy head on it.  There was almost no aroma to it at all, only the slightest hint of maltiness when I pretty much stuck my nose into the beer.

It had a fuller body than I was expecting, solidly medium and a smooth and a little creamy mouthfeel.  There was a bit of a light malty sweetness up front, followed by a bigger caramel-like sweetness and roastiness.

I would definitely pair this beer with a pulled pork sandwich, as the malty and roasty flavors would go very nicely with a nice sweet and smokey BBQ sauce.

After the Oktoberfest, Tin Mill redeemed themselves a bit to me with this beer.  It had some good flavors and it was fairly drinkable.  If the body had been a little lighter, I would have probably ordered another one of these.  Overall, it was a decent beer, and I enjoyed sipping on it while hanging in their beer garden during Oktoberfest.
