195. Bell’s Brewery – Bell’s Oktoberfest Draft

I was at Medici for a work meeting, and stuck around after our off site meeting for a beer – and get a punch on my Wednesday Warriars card (I’m only 3 Wednesdays away).  Plus, it was a chance to try yet another Oktoberfest beer, since, as I mentioned in my last post, my supply of Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers in the beer fridge is disapearing.   Bell’s usually has some pretty good beers, so of the 3-4 seasonals on the list at Medici, I went for theirs.

It was fairly olden in color with aslight amber hue.  It had thin head which fell to almost nothing pretty quickly.  There wasn’t much of an aroma coming from it, only a very light malty breadiness.

The body was light-medium, and the mouthfeel was crisp.  There was a light caramel flavor throughout, with a hint of a slightly woody and rye-bread flavor in the finish.  I’m not sure if the rye-bread like flavor came from the ingredients or it was a lagery/estery flavor from their yeast strain.  These slight flavors in the finish reminded me a bit of the more prominent flavors in a California Common.

If I had to pair this with a meal, it would probably go well with a lighter meat which the light caramel flavors would complement.  I’m would suggested grilled chicken as a good meal to pair with this.

While the light malt flavors made it very drinkable, the light woody/rye-bread flavors through me off a little bit.  While I think I would probably reach for other Oktoberfest beers first, it was a decent seasonal beer.

My Rating: ★★½☆☆
