I got home from work tonight and reached into the beer fridge for another beer for my Oktoberfest Challenge. Unfortunately, after a dozen days into the challenge, I’m running short on seasonal beers. Fortunately, I still had an authentic German Oktoberfest. The label says it’s 5.9% ABV and 11.2 fl. oz.
It was very clear, and was dark golden with a slight bit of an amber tint to it. There was a creamy head on it, and there was almost champagne-like carbonation in it. There was a light malty and lagery aroma to it.
The body was very light, and there was a creamy, yet crisp mouthfeel. There was a light malty caramel flavor in middle and finish, and I thought the finish was very clean.
It was light enough in flavor that it would probably go with almost any food. However, I think it would be a good, lighter drink to go with a thick German meal – allowing the food to fill you up rather than the beer.
There were lighter malty flavors in this one than other Oktoberfest beers I’ve tried so far. It seemed a bit watery, but very drinkable and thirst quenching. Overall, I thought it was a light Oktoberfest that I think I could easily drink a couple liters or boot fulls of.
