164. Goose Island – Summertime

164. Goose Island - SummertimeWe had our ABNormal Brewers homebrew club meeting tonight and the category this month was German wheat and rye beers.  I’m not sure if this Kolsch qualifies, but that wasn’t going to stop me from doing an impromptu review of this beer.

It was extremely clear and was bright yellow in color.  As you can see, it had a thick, white, soapy head which left some nice lacing on the glass.  The aroma was light, but I picked up on a bit of a lemongrass type smell.

The body was extremly light and crisp, and the mouthfeel was clean, but a bit watery with little carbonation in it.  There was almost no flavor up front, but that gave way to a light crackery breadiness and a bit more lemon and fruitiness than I was expecting.  However, it was still a fairly light citrus flavor.

This beer was ligth enough that it could go with almost any food, and was drinkable enough that you could probably come in from mowing the lawn and pound one of these down.

While it might provide some variety and flavor to drinkers of only pale tasteless beers, it didn’t carry much flavor for me… but, that’s not necessary the point of this beer.  It serves its purpose as an easy drinking beer on a hot summer day.  Not a bad beer, but fairly forgettable in my book.

My Rating: ★★½☆☆
