By this point on Friday evening, you could say that it was starting to get more than a little crowded at the Oregon Brewers Festival – big contrast to what yesterday and this morning were like. Therefore, I abandoned my primarily Oregon beer quest and started to go for things that looked interesting and were relatively close to where I was standing. The “Bitter Brewer” caught my eye because of the name, and so I thought I’d give it a try.
It had a light copper color and a thick creamy, cream-colored head. There was a light floral hop aroma to it, but it wasn’t a very strong smell.
The sheet next to the beer said that it was fairly low in alcohol and medium on bitterness. The body was very light, but it was crisp and drinkable. There was a very light, almost lemony flavor up front, and it finished with a mild bitterness that was very dry. The hints of lemon continued throughout the finish, but the dry bitterness took over in the aftertaste. Although the bitter flavors didn’t last too long.
I thought this was a decent summer session beer with a very light body and alcohol, but some night light flavors, giving way to a nice dry bitterness. I think this would go well with almost anything, but I think it would go good while grilling in the back yard – so hotdogs, burgers, etc. Overall, it was a lighter session beer that was fairly good. I wouldn’t send it back, but it’s nothing I’d go out of my way to try again.
