It had a nice burnt orange color and a creamy, thick head. I could smell a nice citrus and piney hop aroma coming off of it as well.
The body was medium, and it was smooth with plenty of carbonation in it. It had a nice maltiness up front, followed by a nice west coast hop flavor. There were citrus, grassy, and piney hop flavors in the finish and aftertaste.
If I had to pair this with a food, I think it would go very well with a nice thick burger. Overall, it was a very, very good IPA, which I’d like to try again sometime soon (although we can’t get Firestone Walker anywhere nearby). The hop flavors were very complex and with the solid balance of malts, you wouldn’t have necessarily been able to tell it measured 72 IBUs. Mark this one down as one to try if you get a chance.
