This one was orange in color and had a very thick, creamy, white head on it. The smells were fruity, lemony, and piney hop aromas.
The body was surprisingly lighter than I expected for a 9% ABV double IPA, although it did have somewhat of a creamy mouthfeel. The flavors were light and fruity up front, followed by a big piney hop finish. The hop flavor lasted for a bit in the aftertaste. It was nicely balanced for a super high hopped beer, and although it had a big hop flavor, it wasn’t overwhelming.
As I say with all of these big double IPAs, they really aren’t made to be enjoyed with food, so I won’t even attempt a pairing. Overall, I thought this was a pretty good, hoppy double IPA with a nice malt backbone to make it enjoyable.
