102. Full Sail Brewing – Spotless IPA

I enjoyed a few very good beers there in the tasting room and pub at Full Sail.  Before heading out to grab a bite of dinner, I wanted to try a sample of the Spotless, a double IPA brewed by Full Sail.  Jamie had mentioned it during our tasting the previous day, but there wasn’t room enough on the tray to include it (and it’s a pretty big beer to try along with so many other samples).  Jamie had warned me though, it has an extreme amount of hops in it, so much so that it may start tasting metallic.

It had a nice clear copper color and a thin head on it when it was served to me.   The hoppy aroma was instantly noticeable, and I think he mentioned that they used Summit hops for the finishing.

It had a pretty light body for being an imperial IPA, and was pretty crisp.  The big hop flavor hit immediately, and almost nothing else was noticeable.  It lasted for quite some time in the aftertaste, much like sucking on a hop.

I wouldn’t recommend drinking this with any particular food since the hop flavor is so big.  It’s meant for hop heads to enjoy, and I did notice (maybe through the power of suggestion) the hop flavor start to become almost metallic in my mouth when I was nearly finished with it.  Overall, it had the big hop flavor I was expecting, but in a lighter, crisper body.
