Location: Poured from the can into a curved pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 9.3% ABV, ~380 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s amber in color and pretty clear. There’s a good amount of carbonation in it, giving it a nice, cream colored head that left quite a bit of lacing. It has a mix of maltiness and tropical-citrus hop aroma.
Taste & Feel: The body is full and the mouthfeel is lightly crisp from the carbonation and hops, but a little oily from the hops. The flavor up front is citrusy hop juiciness with some maltiness behind it. The juiciness grows in the middle, with the maltiness rising up to surpass it for a brief second, before the bitterness kicks in during the finish. The finish is a mix of hop flavor and bitterness with some tropical citrus and dankness, which lasts for a minute or two in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This beer has lots of hop juiciness, but also a fair amount of maltiness behind it. It went good with the sushi, but overpowered it a bit. I think I’d prefer to pair it with something like a burger.
Overall Impression: I really appreciated the solid maltiness behind this hopped up beer, as well as the balance of both hop flavor and bitterness. I like the tropical citrusy hops, as well as the dankness – which surprised me a bit for Falconers Flight hops. .
