Location: On tap and served in a tumbler style pint glass at Slyce in Madeira Beach, FL.
Numbers: 4.9% ABV, 28 IBUs, ~130 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s extremely clear and brown, brick-red in color. It has a thin, creamy, off-white head with a light malty aroma.
Taste & Feel: The body is light with a bit of a watery, slightly creamy feel. There’s a light malty nuttiness up front, with a little bit of roasty bitterness in the middle. The finish is mostly nutty with some underlying bitter roastiness. The nutty, bitter-roastiness lasts briefly in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: I had this beer with their mushroom truffle pizza, and it was a very good pairing, the nutty roastiness mixed well with the earthy flavors of the pizza.
Overall Impression: I appreciated the lighter bodied and flavor beer on this hot afternoon overlooking the intercoastal waterway, and it was a nice pairing with our pizza. I liked the nutty flavors, but the roastiness was a bit more than I was expecting. The roastiness was a bit much and gave it a some bitterness. Overall, it was a decent beer, and I’d be interested to try more beers from Big Storm.
