Location: Poured into a goblet style pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL
Numbers: 8.2% ABV, ~275 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s straw gold-amber in color and a bit hazy. It had a huge, fluffy white head on it that fell to a quarter inch thick, leaving very nice lacing. It has a bold, bright citrusy hop aroma.
Taste & Feel: The body is medium and the mouthfeel is smooth and a little oily from the hop oils. Up front, the flavor is citrusy and grapefruity. There’s a juicy citrus flavor in the middle before the huge citrusy finish that has lots of grapefruit with some mango and pineapple. The hop flavor and bitterness lasts for a couple minutes in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: The big citrusy hop flavor would be the perfect pairing with these taquitos a Mexican place near us had. They came with a mango jalapeño relish that mixed sweet and spicy, and I think the citrusy hop flavors would match it perfectly.
Overall Impression: This was a very citrusy hoppy beer, and I really liked the mix of citrusy flavors. I can see where it would be a great hop flavor for the sun and heat of Phoenix. This beer really showcases the bright tropical fruits that come out of the hops they used. Overall, it was a very good beer, and now I’d love to try more beers from Mother Bunch.
