Location: On tap and served in a tall, curved glass at Logboat Brewing in Columbia, MO.
Numbers: 7.1% ABV, 66 IBUs, 7 SRM, ~230 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s gold in color with some amber hues, and fairly clear. The head was fluffy-white and a bit soapy in texture, with a fair amount of retention. The aroma is a mix of tropical citrusy and resinous hops.
Taste & Feel: The body is light-medium, and the mouthfeel is smooth with a hint of creaminess from the soapy head. The flavor up front is lightly honey-malty with some sweetness, which changes in the middle, when tropical fruit hop flavors and light bitterness comes in. The bitterness grows in the finish, with some pineapple and citrus hop flavors. Those flavors last for a minute or two in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This IPA has a fair amount of tropical fruit flavors, which makes it a good pairing for a summer salad which includes fruits. However, I also thought this could go nicely with a Mexican dish that includes a jalepeno-mango salsa.
Overall Impression: This IPA was very drinkable, and had some unique tropical fruit hop flavors and bitterness. The bitterness was tamer than most IPAs I’ve had lately, which helped its drinkability. I think it would make for a good summer IPA because of these flavors, but I think I generally prefer hop flavors with a bit more pine and grapefruit flavors. Overall, it was a good beer, and I look forward to trying some of their other beers the next time I’m in town.
