It poured a perfect amber color and was fairly hazy. It had a nice creamy head, which created a nice latticing on the glass as I drank it. It had a slightly sweet malty smell, but there was also a notable citrusy hop aroma.
When I took a drink, it had a medium body and great mouthfeel. It had a malty caramel flavor with a nice almost citrusy hop bitterness in the finish. Drink after drink, the malt was up front and the bitterness followed. The hop bitterness made the finish a bit dry, but it also made it crisp.
I have to say that this is now probably one of my favorite amber ales. I really love the “malt up front and hops in the back” taste this beer brings. I prefer to drink beers like this without any food, so I can enjoy the taste purely on its own. However, if I had to choose a food to go with it, I’d go with something a little more bland or plain, like a turkey or po-boy sandwich, so I could more fully appreciate the beer. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up buying a little more of this, just to have on hand in the beer fridge.
