Location: Enjoyed a bottle, at the Atrium Lounge in the New Orleans, LA Louis Armstrong airport.
Numbers: 4.5% ABV, 17 IBUs, 15 SRM, 128 Calories
Taste & Feel: The body was medium and the mouthfeel was crisp. There was a sweet caramel malty flavor up front, growing a bit in the middle. The maltiness continued into the finish with a thick, bready flavor kicking in and flowing into the aftertaste. There was very little bitterness noticeable in the finish, mostly sweet caramel and bready malts.Appearance & Aroma: It was in a bottle, making it hard to see, but I’m willing to bet it was amber in color. Even in the bottle, it seemed to form a frothy head on it. There was a decent sized caramel malt aroma when I smelled the mouth of the bottle.
Food Pairing: Since I’m in New Orleans, I do another local food pairing. I think this would go very nicely with some crawfish etouffee. The breadiness would bring out the flavors in the etoufee, and the caramel maltiness would add a sweetness and complexity to the saltiness of the dish.
Overall Impression: Overall, I thought this was a solid, malty, amber ale. It was very drinkable and had some big malty flavors. It could have been balanced a little better with some hop bitterness, but if you’re looking for a good, solid amber ale that leans a bit toward the malty side, this one was pretty good.
