The beer came in a 22 oz bottle with a great story about Cattleman’s history on the back. It didn’t indicate anywhere on the bottle what style or type of beer it was. However, I’m always up for trying something new and poured it in the glass. I immediately noticed that it must be unfiltered as it was quite cloudy. It was a pale yellow color with a nice head, but the head disappeared almost immediately. It didn’t have much of an aroma, but what I could smell reminded me a lot of a wheat beer – a little wheaty and slightly fruity, almost a bit of lemon.
Upon tasting it, I was pretty sure that it was a wheat beer, but i still doubted myself since the head disappeared so quickly (and wheat is supposed to help with head retention). It had a wheaty/bready taste with a slight hint of fruity flavors. However, for the most part, it didn’t have much flavor at all.
The meal I had was truly incredible, from the great house dressing on the salad, to a ribeye that melted in my mouth. The beer didn’t add or subtract from the meal, and I can’t really say that it would be great with any meal. More than anything, it might just be something cold and wet to drink on a hot day.
