Numbers: 8.5% ABV, 50 IBUs
Appearance & Aroma: Deep brown in color with a thin, creamy, khaki colored head. What I most noticed was the big caramel malty aroma which reminded me a lot of a barleywine.
Taste & Feel: It was lighter bodied than I was expecting, with a medium body and a crisp carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor was almost a burnt caramel with a slightly smokey, woody flavor in the middle. The finish was more burnt caramel with a bit of a raisin like flavor.
Food Pairing: The smokiness and slight woody flavors I was picking up on would make it go perfectly with BBQ. In particular, I think it would go best with some beef ribs covered in a sweet and smokey sauce.
Overall Impression: I really enjoyed the aroma coming from this beer. The flavor was pretty good and I enjoyed the bit of smokey woodiness in the beer. I wish it was slightly bigger bodied, but overall, it was a very good beer.
