This bottle says, “Cherry Stout is a blend of 6 malts combined with Montmorency Cherry concentrate from our home state of Michigan. A stout to be cherished. Open it! 6.5% ABV.”
Numbers: 6.5% ABV, 20 IBUs
Appearance & Aroma: It was very dark black, and even when I held it up to the light, not much came through. There was a thin, creamy, tan head, and the aroma was dark chocolate and dark cherries.
Taste & Feel: It was medium bodied and had a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. There were chocolate and light black patent flavors up front, followed by a chocolate, raisin, and dark cherry flavor. It finished dry with a cocoa and fruity cherry flavor. The flavors in the middle and finish remind me a lot of chocolate covered raisin with a bit of cherry flavoring.
Food Pairing: This would go perfectly with a chocolate or fudge brownie. The fudge flavors would pull more of the cocoa, chocolate, raisin, and dark cherry flavors out of the beer.
Overall Impression: It was surprisingly drinkable, and I enjoyed the complexity of the dark chocolate, raisin, and cherry flavors. The cherry flavor was at just the right strength, adding just the right amount of fruit flavor. I think I would have this again as a dessert beer with a brownie.
