Prior to our meal, I ordered the Buttface Amber Ale. It was described as a “medal-winning American-style Amber ale features malty caramel flavors and a smooth, slightly sweet finish.”
It arrived with a nice creamy head and was an amber color (shocking for an amber ale, huh?). What surprised me was how crystal clear it was. It had a bit of a sweet malty smell.
The body was a bit thicker than I expected, especially for the clarity of the beer. It was creamy and had a good sweet caramelly maltiness and leaned much more toward the malty side than the hoppy side. The hops were barely noticeable and it finished with malt sweetness.
While I didn’t have any food with this beer, I’m sure it would go very well with BBQ with a sweet BBQ sauce. Although I was hoping it would have more American Amber hop bitterness, I should have read the menu, as the beer tasted exactly as it was described. Overall, it was a pretty good beer.
