When it was served it had a dark amber color, and a somewhat thick, creamy head on it. The aroma was malty and caramelly, but with a hint of some fruity notes to it as well.
The body was thicker than I expected – almost a solid medium body on it, but it also had a creamy and smooth mouthfeel. The flavor was all malt. It was a bit of a chewy maltyness when I first took a drink, with sweet malt flavors up front. In the aftertaste, it was a bit more caramelly.
If I had to pair this with a food, it would go perfectly with BBQ ribs or a pulled pork sandwich while tailgating before a football game. While it was a Maibock, I think it would also be a great Octoberfest beer as well. Given the surprisingly bigger body than I was expecting, I think I’d actually prefer it in the fall rather than the spring. Overall, this was a good beer, and I’m fortunate enough that I think the local store carries this one.
