We had almost nothing going on this weekend, so we started putting out some of our Christmas decorations. I’ve spent most of the last couple of days putting lights on our massive 12 foot Christmas tree. This beer arrived a couple of weeks ago, in another delivery from SanTan Brewing. I love getting a notification every few months that beers are on their way to my house from them.
Location: Poured into a TEKU glass from the can at my home in Bloomington, IL
Numbers: 7.3% ABV, ~240 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s golden-orange in color, and slightly hazy. The head fell after a couple of minutes to just a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. The aroma is like fresh apricots and peaches.
Taste & Feel: The body is medium and the mouthfeel is lightly crisp from the carbonation, yet slightly oily from the hops. The flavor up front is sweet and fruity, like an apricot piece of candy. In the middle, a streak of bitterness joins the apricot and peachy juiciness. In the finish, there’s a mix of these fruity, somewhat citrusy flavors and bitterness.
Food Pairing: This is a pretty bold and fruity beer, and I’d probably pair it with a pork loin in order to balance it out and cut through the hop flavors a bit.
Overall Impression: This beer had some really unique hop flavors, which I enjoyed a lot. Given these fruity flavors, I’d definitely consider it more of a summer beer. It also has a solid amount of alcohol, so it’s not exactly a lawnmower type beer. I’d say it’s a perfect beer for the pool or beach, with a fruity and citrus flavor, and a punch that doesn’t require too many to feel the effects. Overall, I thought this was a very good IPA with some unique hop flavors.
