This is the first weekend in quite a while that we haven’t had hardly anything to do. So today, I got my websites transferred over to a new hosting company, cleaned the house a little bit, and then headed to the basement to watch Missouri basketball and clean up my man cave a little bit. So, while I watched the game and cleaned, I enjoyed this beer. I bought a six pack of this beer a couple of weeks ago for a party, and had a couple left, so I thought I’d have them today.
Ingredients: According to the brewery it contains a blend of Mosaic, Azacca, Galaxy, El Dorado and Idaho 7 hops
Location: Poured from the can into a tulip shaped pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 7.2% ABV, 4.5 SRM, ~200 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s bright and golden orange in color and pretty hazy. It has a thick, fluffy, bright white head on it with a tropical aroma with primarily pineapple, mango and orange peel with some piney dankness.
Taste & Feel: Body:The body is solidly medium, and the mouthfeel is creamy from the head and oily from hops, so it’s fairly smooth and velvety. It has a pineapple-like tropical fruit juiciness up front, and the sharper pineapple-like tropical fruits give way to more of a softer, mango-orange like flavor in the middle. The same flavors flow through to the finish, but the bitterness comes up quite a bit more in the finish with mainly tropical fruit bitterness and a bit of piney-dank hop bitterness. The bitterness lasts for a couple minutes in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This beer has a lot of tropical fruitiness, and with the pineapple like flavors, I think the perfect pairing for this beer would be pork chops or maybe even a canadian bacon pizza. If you wanted to all out tropical, this would also be a great pairing with coconut shrimp.
Overall Impression: This has a good mix of tropical flavors, mostly pineapple, mango and orange, and the bitterness comes in nicely at the end. I enjoyed the brighter, more pineapple like hop flavors in this, and they were somewhat soft and not too sharp. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good tropical IPA, and I might have to get some for the summer, as I think it would be pretty good on the beach or on a summer day.
