685. Finch’s Beer Co. – Threadless IPA

685. Finch's Beer Co. - Threadless IPAWe just got back from my daughter’s birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. Despite the stress of the party, my wife lost her wallet and keys at the party. Luckily, someone turned them in right before we had to leave, but it still multiplied the stress level from already record levels. So, when I got home, I needed a beer to take the edge off before my in=laws came over for our family party tonight. I can’t remember when or where I got this beer, but I know I’ve had it before with my friend Joe, who picked some up on a trip to Chicago.

Location: Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect pint glass at my home in Bloomington, IL.

Numbers: 6% ABV, 0 IBUs, % OG, ~160 Calories

Appearance & Aroma: It’s golden-orange in color and cloudy from the sediment in the bottom of the can. It has a good sized, frothy, white head that slowly fell to a thin layer of creamy-soapy bubbles. The aroma is a good amount of citrusy hops.

Taste & Feel: The body is solidly medium and the mouthfeel is slightly creamy with a bit of hop crispness. The flavor up front is a honey-maltiness with some citrusy hop flavors. The citrus gets bigger in the middle, and peaks in finish with a good dose of bitterness. The hop bitterness and flavor lasts for several minutes in the aftertaste.

Food Pairing: This beer is mostly citrusy hop flavors and bitterness, and I think it would be a good pairing with spicy foods, like chicken wings or Thai food.

Overall Impression: This beer was a big hoppy-citrusy IPA with a mix of hop bitterness and flavor. There was a little bit of honey-like maltiness up front, but it’s the hops that really showcased this beer. I enjoyed the hop flavor, and it stuck around for quite a while in the aftertaste. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good West Coast style IPA with a lot of bitterness. I definitely wouldn’t turn down another can of this if offered.

My Rating: ★★★½☆
