About Me

Kevin 1000 BeersI’m Kevin, a beer lover and a homebrewer located in Central Illinois. I was looking up a beer someone had told me about and somehow stumbled across the 999 beers blog by Dave Selden (no longer available on the web). His quest was to drink 999 beers in 999 days, and he provides excellent tasting notes on each beer.

My quest is similar, but it is certainly not an attempt to literally “one-up” Dave. For one, my tasting notes will certainly not be as thorough as his and will lack the fancy tasting graphs he includes. Second, I don’t know that I want to drink a beer every single day (gasp!), or that it would be reasonable for me to do so. However, I may drink 2 (or more) different beers in a single day and simply plan to document the different beers I try throughout my journey.

Really, this site started as a way for me to remember what I thought of the many different beers I’ve tried. I’d find myself going into a bar and thinking to myself, “I can’t remember if I liked that beer or not.” So I started this as a way to help me remember what I’ve had and what I thought of each beer.

I started taking notes on these beers in April 2010, and it continues today. In March 2013, I had heart surgery for a heart valve issue. It slowed me down, but hasn’t taken me out of the game.

If you happen to stumble across this blog, I hope you’ll take a second to let me know you stopped by, and feel free to comment. I’ll do my best to provide tasting notes, but it’s really a chance for me to document my own thoughts, memories, sensations, and tastes as I make my way through 1000 different beers.

  3. Love the blog and had thought of doing something similar myself. We have lots of great micro breweries up here in Maine and I enjoy tasting what they have to offer. If you need more Maine beer to get to your 1,000 let me know and we can make arrangements to get some shipped to you.
